The Adventure Cycling Association TransAmerica Trail

The Trip: We love bikes! And we’re going to ride them for 3 months this coming summer.  We’ll be riding our touring bicycles from Astoria, Oregon to Yorktown, Virginia starting May 1st, 2012. But we want to do more then just ride our bicycles. We want this to be BIGGER. So we’re going to fund-raise while we do it. We are planning a fully self supported independent charity bike ride.  We’ll raise a bunch of money from friends, family, and collective support we draw along the way and give it to a good cause, giving bicycles to those who truly need them.

The Cause:

We’re partnering with Bikes Without Borders

We want to contribute to their program, Pedal Powered Hope, that provides bicycles to local health care workers as well as bicycle ambulances to rural towns in Malawi, Africa. Malawi is a very poor nation and there is a huge incidence of death to many people there including pregnant mothers because of the inaccessibility of health care. We believe this cause is worthy and this organization meets all of our personal goals.

• Bike related: We want to bike for bicycles.
• The money goes directly into the bicycles and put in the hands of the people on the ground.
• The bicycles provide aid where there is a need.
• The money donated does not go into overhead costs

Sponsorship: We want our fund-raising event to be legitimate. We want to show people on the road that we are serious and we have put in the time and the effort to carefully plan out our charity ride. We believe sponsorship will help give credibility to our endeavor. Thus far we’ve had 10 companies donate to our cause and provide us with the sponsorship we were looking for. The Dream: We want to fund-raise $1.00 for every mile that we ride. The TransAmerican Trail is approximately 4,262 miles. Thus giving us a target goal of $4,262. While doing this we hope to find and meet other genuine people on the road. We want to ride our bikes, give something back to the world, and have one heck of a good time doing it!!!!

Specific Goals

1) Bring together friends and family to support us and donate to the cause making this an influential and long-lasting memorable bike ride.

2) Network with cool people on the road rallying support for our cause and making new friends along the way.

We are trying to keep things simple. We don’t want to take on too much and become overwhelmed. That is why we are asking you, our friends, families, and supporters to help us achieve our goal and donate. Thank you so much!!
