VOLUNTEERING WITH BWB

Fresh Start! Internship Program:

Bikes Without Borders offers an innovative part-time volunteer internship program that appeals to a wide variety of people looking to learn more about who we are and what we do as well as gain valuable experience. Our internships last between three to five months (depending on need and availability) at a commitment of about 10-15 hours per week. Interns also must commit to attend a weekly meeting, but are otherwise expected to work independently.

Bikes Without Borders relies on volunteer contributions to help us successfully implement our projects and campaigns and to grow as an organization. Volunteer Interns lead fundraising events, provide staffing support, programming support and lead campaigns. Interns will receive training and experience working with a non-profit and will have an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to our organization. In addition, interns will receive a small honorarium.

Successful applicants should have the following qualifications:
· Able to attend a weekly staff meeting
· A recent graduate or working towards a university/college degree
· Past work/volunteer experience for an NGO is ideal, but not required
· Strong communication skills and comfortable handling multiple projects
· Fundraising experience is an asset
· Project management experience is an asset
· Access to a vehicle is also an asset

An ideal candidate should be creative, outgoing and work in a self-empowering fashion. He or she should be comfortable initiating independent work as well as leading others. He or she will be expected to attend weekly intern meetings, offer insight and engage in the business of the organization as a whole. He or she should be able to handle multiple projects at once as well as being able to work independently as the case may be.

We are not currently hiring. The next round of internships will begin in summer 2012.

Fresh is a proud sponsor of our internship program. Like Fresh, we believe a better world is possible; we believe in the strength of a community and focus our initiatives around collaboration, empowerment and sustainability. For millions around the world a bicycle means cost effective access to basic rights of life like education and healthcare.
